“First Contact” Meeting & My Proposal

No ‘standard’ documents, Powerpoint presentations or marketing spiel. Just me and my expertise.

Having exchanged emails and/or talked with you on the telephone, the next step is for me to come and see you to further discuss your requirements.

“Peter is a member of a very small and elite group of information assurance professionals who understand policy, technology and people in the context of pragmatism, proportionality and price. If you want someone to get to the core of your IA activities, and to help either improve them or understand and resolve your issues, he’s the man.” — Technical Director, Cable & Wireless Services

Straight to the point

I’ve sat through some fantastic IT presentations, with just the right mix of humour, information and new ideas. If a client would like such a presentation, I can and will provide it, but I’m guessing that, instead of discovering that I’m actually quite good at giving presentations, you’d rather know that I really can address your security issues.

For this reason, I tend to keep the presentation short, and spend the rest of the time asking and answering questions. This has worked for every client I have ever dealt with because, by the end of our first meeting, I have offered at least one solution they could actually implement and therefore the client was assured that I could do the job.

So, whether you have specific Information Security requirements in mind or just a vague idea of your Information Assurance needs, I can confidently help you either way. I have frequently been asked to meetings with only a very rough idea of the clients’ security issues, but I have a broad and deep understanding of Information Assurance and am able to recall detailed information, so this arrangement has not been an issue.

“Peter is one of the most technically knowledgeable people in his subject matter and has, on every occasion I have asked, provided a cost-effective and risk-balanced solution to the problem raised. He provides a depth of knowledge and experience that allows clients to make a sensible risk decision. He has the ability to rationally discuss the whole subject, from detailed technical security implementation matters to the intricacies of pragmatic policy implementation.” — Head of Information Assurance and Accreditation, Central HMG

No charge, no obligation

The initial meeting is completely free of charge – if I don’t impress you, you are of course under no obligation to hire me. The meeting can take any form you prefer, from Board level or large team to an individual sitting at a desk, and although I usually find it takes about 1-2 hours to exchange enough information and ideas for me to write a Proposal, I am always happy to oblige if a client asks me to stay longer.

My Information Security Proposal

After our meeting, I will further review the matter before producing a Proposal for your perusal. This will not be a ‘standard’ document showing what I do or a general marketing brochure with a single sheet of A4 about our meeting – I always write for the specific needs of every individual client I meet. The Proposal will be tailored entirely to your requirements.
